Fort Wayne, IN – The Three Rivers Ambulance Authority has announced the impending retirement of its Executive Director, effective December 31, 2021. Gary Booher has been TRAA’s Executive Director since November 1989 and during that time has overseen TRAA’s operations, including it’s billing and collections operation, multiple competitive procurements for its operations division, contract negotiations, as well as the construction of and move into TRAA’s current facility on Hayden Street. During his tenure, TRAA has maintained the highest quality in terms of pre-hospital care, being chosen as Indiana’s ALS Provider of the Year in 2016, 2017 and 2019 as well as being accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS) and accreditation as an Accredited Center of Excellence (ACE) through the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch. TRAA has been able to maintain its commitments to quality while remaining free from local tax subsidy during his tenure.
Booher says of his retirement, “It’s been a pleasure and honor working at TRAA, working with the greatest people in the country, from the office staff to all of the operations staff, medics and system controllers over the years. It’s truly the hard work of all of these people that have made my job enjoyable and easier and I will miss them all tremendously.” When asked why retire now, Booher said, “After 32 years, the time has come to focus on a new phase in my life. A phase that focuses on doing things that I just never seem to find time to do right now. It’s just time to slow down and learn how to unwind.”
The TRAA Board of Directors has already begun the process of looking for Booher’s successor. The Board is using the EMS consulting firm of Fitch and Associates to assist in finding their new Executive Director. Fitch will be looking for qualified local individuals as well as nationwide and will be helping the TRAA Board narrow their search before ultimately selecting their final candidate.
